Equating businesses and educational institutions – A student’s viewpoint

The ultimate purpose of a business is profit. To make a profit, the business employs people who sweep to people who audit financial statements. Just like in our lives, these businesses also encounter problems that may require an external support and those that give this support are called consultants. These people are well qualified so that they’re able to come up with a strategy, an actionable solution considering all parameters to solve the problem faced by the business. You may equate this to doctor consultations. There are governments that employ consultants to come up with expert advice and strategy to either face a problem or to make their work more efficient. Now that I’ve laid the foundation, I would like to pinpoint the biggest problem I see as a student that’s cancerous for the society: Peers who don’t take education seriously.                This is the case in majority of c...

Looking Back at my Glorious Teens

From being an  oily haired, be-spectacled , awkward looking teen starting in 2013 to being a young woman with untied hair, who can call herself a student, an engineer to be, a dancer, a blogger in 2019. From having pimples and acne scars all over my face to having a decently glowing skin. From dreaming of having those perfect bangs on my forehead to having one. From participating eagerly in any and every competition to being the Best Outgoing Student of my school. From being an above average student to coming 1 st in 12 th std. board exams and getting into colleges I never believed I could be in. From radio to Youtube. From dancing bharathanatyam to dancing for Laila mein Laila. From thinking I know everything in my art to knowing I know nothing. From the Himalayas to Kanyakumari. From being praised for getting into top colleges to being looked down upon for dropping out twice. From perseverance to self harm. From illnesses to recupe...

Carrying a geometry box to carrying a drafter - Life of an engineering student in India #2,3,4

Something about life in college:   Shrinking three months' content into one article is both easy and difficult. Easy because I'm lazy to write 3 of them. Difficult because the events and thoughts aren't fresh in my memory. But that's how irregular undergrad will be and I'm trying to get used to it as soon as possible. Failed plans, missed deadlines, last minute preparations are the norm these days. I personally view my courses with the expectation that they'll feature at some point in my career. This helps me to look forward to the lectures and the question paper. I see people around me sit in the lecture for the sake of attendance. I've done that too but in hindsight, I feel it's just not worth the time we put in sitting in the lecture. (Bunking classes is not an option unless you want to be kicked out of college lol) I figured out getting my mind excited about the subject (by knowing what was taught in the previous class or simply begging my mind to ...

Carrying a geometry box to carrying a drafter - Life of an engineering student in India #1

Something about life in college: College kickstarted with the orientation program which is now mandatory to receive a Bachelor of engineering degree in India. My stint at two colleges before helped me have the right expectations out of PSG Tech. AICTE has to be appreciated to in initiating the orientation program in all engineering colleges. Diving into calculus the very third day at college would have done more harm that one could imagine. I got an idea of how my department computer science and engineering would be like in the orientation. There's not much senior junior interaction here as opposed to most colleges. The sessions thankfully weren't as boring as one would normally expect out of these programs. I was surprised to see me volunteering to talk at every chance presented. My only focus was and is to improve my speech delivery and lessen my  anxiety that I picked up in the last one year when I raised my hands. I was conscious of with whom I'm bonding and developin...

Decoding the buzz words as a freshman - #1 (SA)

Welcome to the first post of "Decoding the buzzwords as a freshman" series. Starting as a freshman majoring in computer science can be very intimidating in the current scenario as the talk of the town (LinkedIn especially) are computer science jargons like Big Data, Cloud Computing, Data science, IoT, machine learning, bitcoin, computer vision, reinforcement learning, Sentiment Analysis etc. The worst part is we are expected to know what these terms mean when we actually shouldn't be. Nontheless, an insight into what these topics entail can make lives easier as undergrads learning physics, chemistry and mathematics when all that the world seems to be telling us is to learn coding. (which ofcourse is essential) An understanding of the prerequisites of the hot selling skills in the market will help us find meaning in what we study in the first two years of college. Hence, this series is to vaguely enlighten you and instigate an interest in you for these "cool...

My Pimple Story - Part 2

“Where did your pimples go?” is the very first question people who know me for more than five years ask. “To the Artic”, I reply. Just kidding! In my previous post/video, I had mentioned I thank my ex-pimple face. I’m desperate to share why with you guys. So yeah, I lived with pimples on my face for more than five years. I’ve faced bullying and rejection because of it. I couldn’t depend on my skin or appearance for confidence and assurance. I was frantically looking for something to hold on which would give me confidence and assurance. Few books*  and perspectives made me figure out this. It was as though a bulb had been switched on inside my head. I decided my confidence would depend only on what I was from within and not on what I looked like. This made a world of difference in my outlook. I began focusing more on myself from the inside and less on fr...

My Pimple Story (What helped me) - Part 1

It all started as small bumps on the forehead of my face when I was in 5 th grade. I remember answering people (many of them) that it was due to hormones because my mom told me so. Before I could get hold of what was happening on my face, Acne vulgaris* was all over me – my face, chest, back, shoulder everywhere. I’m in 6 th grade now and visiting dermatologists. They all prescribe me tablets and creams. My mother right away rejects all the tablets but allows me to use the creams topically. You know the results (meaning there were no results.) So mom and I take solace in what the kitchen has to offer. Everything that goes inside my mouth also goes on my face.  I’m in 7 th grade now. I write to Shahnaz Hussain for home remedies for my acne vulgaris and my query features in the Metroplus, The Hindu. It becomes the talk of the town for some time (cringe!) Overtime, I became a DIY monger (in pic) and had even written notes as to what all to use when without the help of Goog...
