Carrying a geometry box to carrying a drafter - Life of an engineering student in India #1

Something about life in college:
College kickstarted with the orientation program which is now mandatory to receive a Bachelor of engineering degree in India. My stint at two colleges before helped me have the right expectations out of PSG Tech. AICTE has to be appreciated to in initiating the orientation program in all engineering colleges. Diving into calculus the very third day at college would have done more harm that one could imagine. I got an idea of how my department computer science and engineering would be like in the orientation. There's not much senior junior interaction here as opposed to most colleges. The sessions thankfully weren't as boring as one would normally expect out of these programs. I was surprised to see me volunteering to talk at every chance presented. My only focus was and is to improve my speech delivery and lessen my  anxiety that I picked up in the last one year when I raised my hands. I was conscious of with whom I'm bonding and developing friendship. From mine and other's experience, the advice I got was to not settle for the first person or people you meet in college. I was asked to be open. Keeping this in mind, I partially went out of my way to invite people for lunch. I can't stand the concept of meeting one person this moment and calling him/her a bestie the next moment. From what I've read and felt, it takes atleast a semester to find people who truly resonate with you. So my focus was on being mindful and in the moment and genuine. I feel strongly that this is enough. I'm still a work in progress in this. I choreographed and presented a performance which is an experience I'll cherish forever. I've an Instagram post on it if you wish to know the details. Classes weren't pathetic. I would rate it a 3-3.5. I find the professor's genuine. I find the environment conducive. Not only me but everybody were excited for what was in store in engineering education.
After a run during the sports hour as a part of the orientation program

Something about life outside college:
I did amazingly well in terms of my mental health when compared to the previous month. I was craving to sit in a desk and listen to lectures and see the board and take notes and I was taking it all in and it helped. A lot actually. I had numerous schedulesthat I planned to follow as a student all of which failed. I was switching between college and dance class. I'm happy I was occupied. I'm trying to get the best of every moment I'm in and I forget exactly this most times. I realise it's a difficult task and that all people want the exact same thing which they seek I'm different ways. People are always a work in progress in this section and it's a lifelong progress according to me. Looking back, even if I didn't touch my novel or do vlogs and blogs, I'm happy at how my life turned out in the last month.  Mainly because I could be busy after 8 long months and didn't go insane. I'm still slipping when it comes to taking care of my health.

Something about my dance:
This month could see me head to the hostel terrace to practice ( I'm a dayski lol). Only for a handful of days though. I started off with the very first thattu adavu and could see it required more effort than a bhajan. I danced varnam jathis after years and didn't forget a step. People liked my dancing too which boosted my confidence. Self doubt is a constant companion in the case of an artist. It's a thin line between needing praise for confidence and needing praise for ego. I was busy practicing for the annual day of my dance class and I'm happy how dance was a constant companion this month. I also developed a deep desire to do my Arangetram after realising I haven't ever danced a full varnam or a solo for that matter. Hope it materialises.

Aaand, I want you to be grateful for the things that you need to do and things that keep you busy. Most times, we curse them and blaze through but without them, our life will have no meaning and our day will have no purpose.

Thank you for taking the time out to read :)

Why I feel bad after visiting temples

It might be the case that the weird title has brought you here. Well, let’s see what my mindvoice has to talk about it. I find my soul basking in the sancity of the temple (thanks to its aura*) every time I visit one. I feel a sense of completeness. Also I find a commotion inside my head which neutralizes this positive feeling and it is this, the discrimination between the wealthy and the not so wealthy. The special queues that take the ‘who have it’ people inches closer to the deity. The priests who proportionately ration their loyalty (chanting mantras and stuff) to the money (dakshanam) they receive. I was born a Hindu. I have visited a good number of temples in my lifetime and majority of them go by these standards. The already privileged get the privileges. I’m saddened by this fact. A temple needs to be a place from where equality (irrespective of wealth, class, occupation, caste, gender, color) originates and propagates. I have heard that during the Chola period, the Brihad...

Equating businesses and educational institutions – A student’s viewpoint

The ultimate purpose of a business is profit. To make a profit, the business employs people who sweep to people who audit financial statements. Just like in our lives, these businesses also encounter problems that may require an external support and those that give this support are called consultants. These people are well qualified so that they’re able to come up with a strategy, an actionable solution considering all parameters to solve the problem faced by the business. You may equate this to doctor consultations. There are governments that employ consultants to come up with expert advice and strategy to either face a problem or to make their work more efficient. Now that I’ve laid the foundation, I would like to pinpoint the biggest problem I see as a student that’s cancerous for the society: Peers who don’t take education seriously.                This is the case in majority of c...

Looking Back at my Glorious Teens

From being an  oily haired, be-spectacled , awkward looking teen starting in 2013 to being a young woman with untied hair, who can call herself a student, an engineer to be, a dancer, a blogger in 2019. From having pimples and acne scars all over my face to having a decently glowing skin. From dreaming of having those perfect bangs on my forehead to having one. From participating eagerly in any and every competition to being the Best Outgoing Student of my school. From being an above average student to coming 1 st in 12 th std. board exams and getting into colleges I never believed I could be in. From radio to Youtube. From dancing bharathanatyam to dancing for Laila mein Laila. From thinking I know everything in my art to knowing I know nothing. From the Himalayas to Kanyakumari. From being praised for getting into top colleges to being looked down upon for dropping out twice. From perseverance to self harm. From illnesses to recupe...
